Atlantis,
Paradise Island in the Bahamas continues to raise the bar in
terms of over-the-top attractions.
Aquaventure, a 63-acre water park with
81 lifeguard stations, opened March 2.
Aquaventure has water slides and a
mile-long ride with rapids, wave surges and special effects.
Once guests are in their inner tubes and enter the
attraction, they are moved along by water escalators and
surges. In fact, riders never have to leave the water, as
they are propelled up the water slide tower via conveyors.
The 120-foot-high Power Tower offers a
choice of four descents. The Abyss drops riders 50 vertical
feet into near darkness through a tumbling waterfall. The
Drop, The Falls and The Surge are three inner-tube slides
that create roller coaster effects from jets of water that
propel riders up and down at a fast pace.
Surrounding the Power Tower is a river
ride system with waves pushing inner-tube riders through
seven-foot-high elevations and drops, rapids and up to the
Power Tower.
Special effects throughout the water
park are used to convey fire, smoke, fog and darkness.
Admission to Aquaventure is free for
Atlantis guests. |
